Vaishno Devi is undoubtedly one of the most divine and holiest pilgrim spot in India. Situated in the beautiful Jammu, the popularity is so much that approximately 10 million people visit this shrine every year.
The adventurous ones will love the route that leads to the temple. You will be required to trek for at least 12 km to the temple from Katra that is a base camp. The temple was built for Mahalakshmi whose form Vaishno Devi is what you see in the temple.
The interesting part about this temple is that they have naturally formed rock structures that are called as pindies. The pindies represent the three different forms – Maha Kai, maha Saraswati and also Maha Lakshmi and because the temple is beautifully situated n the Trikuta Mountains, the views are spectacular.
The temple is situated approximately 5200 feet above the sea level. In fact the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) had even released coins of Rs 5, Rs 10 that has the image of Vaishno Devi.
The Vaishno Devi Temple also has many free accommodation facilities especially in Dhaamshalas and the meals are also very economically prices. The temple trust also provides free medical aid for devotees. This temple is usually open all through the year, but it is always advised to go after you have done a weather check. There are also helicopter services for travelers’ that they can reach the temple comfortably. For a two way route, you will have to pay approximately Rs 2340 and for a pony ride, you will have to pay Rs 800 approximately.
How to reach Vaishno Devi:
You can reach Vaishno Devi with so many traveling options since it is one of the most famous pilgrim centers. There are direct buses that ply from any North Indian city to Jammu or even Katra.
You can also take the train and the nearest railway station is Katra railway station that is also called the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station. The railways station is well connected to other parts of the country. And if you opt to take a flight, the nearest airport is the Satwaru Airport that is located in Jammu and is 50 km away from Katra if you go by road.
