The Nain Devi temple that is situated in Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh is another Durga temple that you must visit during Navratri.
According to legend, it is said that Sati had jumped into a yagna and killed herself. Enraged by her death, Shiva performed the Tandava that is said to have alarmed all the Gods and because something had to be done, Vishnu released a chakra that went and cut Sati’s body in 51 pieces and parts which is now popularly called as the Shakti Peethas. And of all the parts that fell, the Naina Devi temple stands at a spot where Sati’s eyes fell. This is the story that is associated with this temple, we are not quite sure about how true it is, but it does make for one interesting story. People from all over the world visit this temple and you should too if you haven’t yet.
And there shouldn’t be any better time than Navratri to visit this temple since the temple has three idols – Maha Kali, the idol of the eyes (called Naina in Hindi) of Sati and also Ganesha. The temple is located at the top of a hill that overlooks the beautiful and alluring Gobind Sagar Lake. There is also a cable car that will take you to the temple from the base of this hill. The location of the temple is a scenic one and that should give you one more reason to visit this significant temple.
How to reach Naina Devi temple:
The town where this temple is located is well connected to NH21 and it is situated at 350 km from Delhi and 100 km from Chandigarh. For those who prefer to take the train, the nearest railway station is Anandpur Sahib that is just 30 km away from the temple. If you prefer going by air, the nearest airport is the situated at Chandigarh.
