Annapurna Devi is particularly revered among the deities recognized in Hinduism. He is considered as a form of Mother Jagdamba, from which the whole world operates. The world is nourished by the Annapurna form of these Jagadamba.

The literal meaning of Annapurna is the presiding officer of 'Dhanya' (food). Sanatana Dharma affiliates that food is obtained by the grace of Mother Annapurna.

The form of Maa Bhagwati from which the world is receiving sustenance and food clothes, they are the Annapurna form. It is believed that all the creatures in the world are getting food only by the grace of Mother Annapurna.

Since Lord Shiva controls the entire creation like his family. Therefore, Annapurna, the family mother of his family runs it. Worshiping Maa Annapurna leads to prosperity and satisfaction. Along with this, the person gets blessings of devotion and disinterest.

In Hinduism, Goddess Annapoorna or Annapurna Devi is the Goddess of food. She is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, in essence one of the numerous forms of Shakti. In this incarnation she nourishes all living beings and therefore Hindus consider ‘Annam’ (food) as holy. Mata Sri Annapurneshwari Devi is the Goddess for the fourth day of Durga Navrathri. She is a form of the Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. She is depicted with a jeweled vessel containing food in one hand and a spoon in the other to distribute the food to her devotees. The Sri Annapurna Ashtakam composed by Shankaracharya is devoted to this goddess of Hindu religion.

Goddess Annapurna is the God of Food. Everyone should keep their kitchen clean on the day of Purnima. The house should be pured by spreading Ganga Jal in the house everywhere. On the day of Annapurna Jayanti, one should worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Before partaking of any meal, a devotee should offer Her food with this prayer. “Oh Annapurna, you are always full, complete, and perfect. You are the energy of the beloved Lord Shiva. For the attainment in wisdom and renunciation, please give me your nourishment.”

The wisdom Mother gives is the understanding that “Giving” is true spirituality. She teaches that renunciation will allow us to remain in equanimity in all of life’s circumstances.
